LU Esports Teams Up With ALSF To Help Cure Childhood Cancer
51ĀŅĀ×ās Esports team has been enjoying plenty of success this season. On Sunday, April 14, the Muskies will be playing with an even bigger cause in mind.
Lakeland Esports will be holding a fundraiser for (ALSF), which has a mission of changing the lives of children with cancer through funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer.
The Muskies will hold an eight-hour stream on their Twitch channel beginning at 9 a.m. that can be extended with donations up to 24 hours.
The stream will feature members of the Muskies team playing various games and raising money to benefit Alexās Lemonade Stand. There will be plenty of incentives for reaching specific fundraising goals, including extending the stream and team members performing various challenges.
Brett Sheldon, Lakelandās head Esports coach, said he was contacted by Alex's Lemonade Stand about the opportunity.
āThey wanted to expand their reach into Esports as a way to engage more audiences and they thought getting in touch with an established program would benefit both parties,ā Sheldon said.
āThis is a great way for our program to give back to our community through our students and their hard work. Our stream is very student run, so I want to showcase their abilities in a different light other than our game days.ā
Donors can participate in-person on the day of the stream by visiting Lakelandās Esports arena located on LUās main campus. Donations will also be accepted to the stream, and donations can be mailed.
