Lakeland to host Open House at new Waukesha County location
51ĀŅĀ× will host an open house at its new Waukesha County Center location at Waukesha County Technical Collegeās main campus at 800 Main St. in Pewaukee, Wis., from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on August 29.
At 3 p.m., Lakeland President Dr. Beth Borgen and WCTC President Dr. Richard Barnhouse will be part of a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially kick off this partnership.
Lakeland staff will be available throughout the day at the center, located at B-005 in Building B, to provide a tour of LUās new space. Staff can also discuss how Lakeland will continue to serve its students and make it easier for WCTC graduates to complete a bachelorās or masterās degree.
Snacks will be available throughout the day, and guests can enter to win a drawing for a free Lakeland class.
Lakeland re-located to the WCTC campus this summer in time for classes this fall.
āLakeland and WCTC share a vision for a more educated region and we are passionate about creating easier access for students to achieve their educational goals,ā Borgen said. āFor WCTC students interested in a bachelorās degree, they can continue on the pathway at a campus that already feels like home.ā
Barnhouse said since the landscape in higher education remains ever changing, it is critical for institutions to work in tandem to provide students with a broader range of options.
āWe couldnāt be more excited to have 51ĀŅĀ× as a part of our WCTC Pewaukee campus to deliver baccalaureate degrees directly to our students,ā Barnhouse said, noting many WCTC students have transferred to Lakeland to earn four-year degrees. āNow, our students will have the opportunity to complete a bachelorās degree in an environment that they are already familiar with.ā
New program transfer options
Additionally, the two institutions recently signed a new transfer agreement for current students and graduates of WCTCās Criminal Justice Studies associate degree program. This gives WCTC students a seamless transition into a bachelorās degree in Criminal Justice or Organizational Management at Lakeland.
Lakeland will offer more than a dozen bachelorās degree programs and four masterās degree programs in Waukesha County. Many degrees and classes are available online or through Lakelandās popular and innovative BlendEdĀ® format, which allows students to decide week-to-week if they want to attend class in person or online.
Lakeland developed what was the stateās first evening degree-completion program for working adults in 1978. The program was based on the vision of prominent Wisconsin business leader and former Lakeland Trustee William R. Kellett.
Since that programās creation, Lakeland has seen thousands of adults earn baccalaureate and graduate degrees. Lakeland also has centers in Appleton, Chippewa Falls, Green Bay, Madison, Wisconsin Rapids and on Lakelandās main campus in Sheboygan County. Lakeland was founded in Sheboygan County in 1862.
