Lakeland Esports Raises $2,400 for Childhood Cancer
This past weekend, the Lakeland Esports team participated for the second consecutive year in the āUnlocking a Cureā event put on by Alexās Lemonade Stand Foundation.
Alexās Lemonade Stand is a foundation that raises money and awareness for childhood cancer research. The Lakeland Esports team held a charity live stream to raise money during the event.
The live stream began at 9:30 a.m. on April 12 and ended at 9:30 a.m. on April 13. Over the course of the stream, the Lakeland Epsorts team showcased their varsity titles, played games with viewers, participated in exhibition matches with Carthage College and more.
In the previous year, the team raised $1,340 during the stream, and this year the team topped that with $1,400 raised. Northwestern Mutual pledged to match the first $1,000 raised bringing the total to $2,400.
āThis event is a great way for our students to get involved in the community and raise awareness of a disease that affects too many people,ā said Lakeland Esports Coach Brett Sheldon. āWe are already planning our stream for next year and hope to make it bigger and better.ā
